We are looking for a Head of Non-Financial Risk with a remit of Operational Risk & Compliance, to join our Group Risk & Compliance function.
Reporting to the Chief Risk Officer, the Head of Non-Financial Risk is accountable for ensuring the effective governance and management of all material non-financial risk classes. As part of the Group Risk & Compliance Leadership team, the Head of Non-Financial Risk supports the development of the Risk function’s vision and strategy and works to foster a culture of strong employee engagement, optimised productivity, efficiency, client/customer service, employee retention and a proactive risk culture.
You’ll also make an impact by:

  • Leading and developing a team of subject matter experts to provide oversight, advisory and assurance activities in line with risk and compliance frameworks to ensure the effective identification and management of material risks to ensure the prudent and sound management of the organisation.
  • Drive the development of Compliance policies and frameworks and work closely with the Head of Enterprise Risk Strategy and Regulatory Affairs and Risk Stewards (Fraud and Scams, Service Provider Risk, Business Continuity, Tech, Data and Cyber) to provide input into the strategic development, implementation and ongoing delivery of Cuscal’s Non-Financial Risk Management Strategies and associated frameworks, and with Line 1 Material Risk Class Stewards.
  • Providing independent and objective review and challenge of:
    • the consistent and effective implementation of the operational risk management and compliance framework throughout the organisation.
    • the data and information captured as part of the risk management framework which are used in the decision-making processes within the business, in particular the completeness and appropriateness of the risk identification and analysis, ongoing effectiveness of risk controls, and prioritisation and management of action plans; and
    • oversight of the level of risk in the institution and its relationship to the risk appetite, and any necessary reporting and escalation to the Board or its committees.
    • Providing effective challenge as part of participation in the decision-making process, ensuring that material decisions are risk based, and risk frameworks support effective decision making.

    What You’ll Bring
    You’re a strategic thinker with an inquisitive nature; you have excellent communications skills and a passion for risk. You thrive in a fast-paced environment and are driven to contribute to a dynamic team.
    To succeed in this role, you’ll have the following experience:
    • Tertiary qualification in a related discipline (e.g., finance, commerce, business, audit)
    • Demonstrated experience in operational risk and compliance roles, in the financial services sector, including the design and implementation of effective risk and compliance management frameworks, and a sound knowledge of APRA prudential standards.
    • Demonstrated experience in building risk maturity and capability across the first and second lines of defence and experience/exposure to better industry practice as it relates to non-financial risk transformation
    • Strong change management, project management and time management skills with the ability to manage projects from initiation through to completion across multiple projects whilst meeting deadlines and managing a high-volume workload of often-changing priorities.
    • Strong inter-personal and communication skills with the ability to build effective workplace relationships.
    • Ability to work with a high degree of autonomy and be able to demonstrate sound judgment.
    • Detailed knowledge and experience in the regulatory framework governing Cuscal or capacity to promptly familiarise with same.
    • Demonstrated capability to develop team vision, execution plan and building team culture based on a foundation of trust.
    • Strong project management skills including the ability to effectively deploy resources and manage multiple projects or various scope and diversity.
    • Demonstrated capability to lead and manage change.

    • Strong financial capabilities
    • Strong computer literacy; competent in Microsoft Office
    • Strong business planning, analytical and conceptual skills

    Our Hedging practice advises clients on interest rate, foreign currency, and commodity risk management across sectors including real estate, private equity, Infrastructure, ASX 100, Fortune 1000 corporations, and financial institutions.     We are seeking a motivated Associate with 2- 4 years of experience in a similar derivative solutions role, to join our Australian team focused on delivering tailored risk management solutions.
    In this role you will

    • Provide advisory services to clients on derivative products and risk management strategies involving interest rate, FX, and commodity exposures.
    • Structure, model, and analyze complex derivative transactions to meet client objectives.
    • Lead preparation and review of transaction documentation, ensuring legal and regulatory compliance.
    • Conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis of client financial portfolios and exposures to inform hedging solutions.
    • Maintain and develop further direct client relationships, including onboarding, ongoing portfolio monitoring, and strategic advisory.
    • Deliver client presentations, market research, and detailed reports to support decision-making.
    • Collaborate closely with deal managers, legal, risk, and trading teams to ensure seamless transaction execution and client satisfaction.
    • Stay current with market developments, regulatory changes, and best practices in financial risk management.
    • Interact with our clients and other offices globally, developing your capabilities across not just Australian, or Asia Pacific but global financial markets transactions

    Contributors To Your Success
    • 2-4 years professional experience in financial risk advisory, derivatives, or related roles.
    • ATAR Ranking of 95 or more (at least one Mathematic subjects)
    • Minimum bachelor’s degree (or higher). A degree in finance is not required, but quantitative aptitude and the ability to think critically are important.
    • Proven understanding of derivative products, financial modelling, and risk management principles.
    • Experience structuring, pricing, and executing derivative transactions.
    • The ability to work with large amounts of data and understand causal relationships, attention to detail in both inputs and outputs, experience with statistical analysis and financial modelling a plus.
    • Strong verbal and written communication are critical, providing the ability to communicate complex subject matter in a way that educates and prioritizes findings, flexing delivery style to accommodate different audiences, engaging with clients on new project proposals and ongoing delivery, and effective communication through various formats (PowerPoint slides, email, verbal, spreadsheets, etc.).
    • The ability to share information internally to grow the capabilities of the team and to seek out knowledge from others when needed, partnering with external clients throughout a project, delivering on internal requirements to support other teams as needed.
    • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple client projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
    • Fluent English: additional language capabilities will be regarded favourably.

    The Role

    The Chief Financial and Risk Officer leads financial strategy, risk and governance and financial sustainability across the CBAA Group which includes the CBAA and associated entities, the Local and Independent News Association (LINA), and Disability Media Australia (DMA). You will be responsible for ensuring strong financial systems, performance, risk management and strategic financial planning aligned with each entity’s goals and the Group’s shared services model.

    Reporting directly to the CEO, and playing a key role as a member of the senior leadership team, you will:

    • provide strategic financial leadership and guidance to the group
    • take a hands-on role managing financial accounting, compliance, assets and risk
    • deliver timely and accurate reports to boards in the group, the CEO and senior team
    • adopt the role of business partner and advisor
    • manage and develop a high performing finance team
    • build trusted relationships with external partners and stakeholders
    Skills Required

    You will be a proven leader with experience in a similar executive leadership role who possesses high level financial and risk management experience. This will include experience preparing and presenting financial reports to senior boards and committees. Ideally you have broad knowledge of accounting for membership, government, philanthropic organisations including grants acquittals. You have well-developed interpersonal engagement and communication skills including the ability to translate financial information to a variety of stakeholders.

    • have the ability to manage a team to deliver high quality and timely services
    • demonstrate high level strategic thinking and problem-solving skills
    • hold a recognised accounting qualification (CA/CPA or equivalent)

    The Chief Financial and Risk Officer leads financial strategy, risk and governance and financial sustainability across the CBAA Group which includes the CBAA and associated entities, the Local and Independent News Association (LINA), and Disability Media Australia (DMA). You will be responsible for ensuring strong financial systems, performance, risk management and strategic financial planning aligned with each entity’s goals and the Group’s shared services model.

    Reporting directly to the CEO, and playing a key role as a member of the senior leadership team, you will:

    provide strategic financial leadership and guidance to the group

    take a hands-on role managing financial accounting, compliance, assets and risk

    deliver timely and accurate reports to boards in the group, the CEO and senior team

    adopt the role of business partner and advisor

    manage and develop a high performing finance team

    build trusted relationships with external partners and stakeholders

    Skills Required
    You will be a proven leader with experience in a similar executive leadership role who possesses high level financial and risk management experience. This will include experience preparing and presenting financial reports to senior boards and committees. Ideally you have broad knowledge of accounting for membership, government, philanthropic organisations including grants acquittals. You have well-developed interpersonal engagement and communication skills including the ability to translate financial information to a variety of stakeholders.

    We are looking for a Head of Non-Financial Risk with a remit of Operational Risk & Compliance, to join our Group Risk & Compliance function.

    Reporting to the Chief Risk Officer, the Head of Non-Financial Risk is accountable for ensuring the effective governance and management of all material non-financial risk classes. As part of the Group Risk & Compliance Leadership team, the Head of Non-Financial Risk supports the development of the Risk function’s vision and strategy and works to foster a culture of strong employee engagement, optimised productivity, efficiency, client/customer service, employee retention and a proactive risk culture.

    You’ll also make an impact by:

  • Leading and developing a team of subject matter experts to provide oversight, advisory and assurance activities in line with risk and compliance frameworks to ensure the effective identification and management of material risks to ensure the prudent and sound management of the organisation.
  • Drive the development of Compliance policies and frameworks and work closely with the Head of Enterprise Risk Strategy and Regulatory Affairs and Risk Stewards (Fraud and Scams, Service Provider Risk, Business Continuity, Tech, Data and Cyber) to provide input into the strategic development, implementation and ongoing delivery of Cuscal’s Non-Financial Risk Management Strategies and associated frameworks, and with Line 1 Material Risk Class Stewards.
  • Providing independent and objective review and challenge of:
    • the consistent and effective implementation of the operational risk management and compliance framework throughout the organisation.
    • the data and information captured as part of the risk management framework which are used in the decision-making processes within the business, in particular the completeness and appropriateness of the risk identification and analysis, ongoing effectiveness of risk controls, and prioritisation and management of action plans; and
    • oversight of the level of risk in the institution and its relationship to the risk appetite, and any necessary reporting and escalation to the Board or its committees.
    • Providing effective challenge as part of participation in the decision-making process, ensuring that material decisions are risk based, and risk frameworks support effective decision making.



    What You’ll Bring

    You’re a strategic thinker with an inquisitive nature; you have excellent communications skills and a passion for risk. You thrive in a fast-paced environment and are driven to contribute to a dynamic team.

    To succeed in this role, you’ll have the following experience:

    • Tertiary qualification in a related discipline (e.g., finance, commerce, business, audit)
    • Demonstrated experience in operational risk and compliance roles, in the financial services sector, including the design and implementation of effective risk and compliance management frameworks, and a sound knowledge of APRA prudential standards.
    • Demonstrated experience in building risk maturity and capability across the first and second lines of defence and experience/exposure to better industry practice as it relates to non-financial risk transformation
    • Strong change management, project management and time management skills with the ability to manage projects from initiation through to completion across multiple projects whilst meeting deadlines and managing a high-volume workload of often-changing priorities.
    • Strong inter-personal and communication skills with the ability to build effective workplace relationships.
    • Ability to work with a high degree of autonomy and be able to demonstrate sound judgment.
    • Detailed knowledge and experience in the regulatory framework governing Cuscal or capacity to promptly familiarise with same.
    • Demonstrated capability to develop team vision, execution plan and building team culture based on a foundation of trust.
    • Strong project management skills including the ability to effectively deploy resources and manage multiple projects or various scope and diversity.
    • Demonstrated capability to lead and manage change.
