What is the job?
The Environmental Health and Safety Officer plays a critical role in supporting hotel leadership to deliver on their safety, sustainability, and compliance commitments. Based in a unique and dynamic remote location, you will ensure that safety protocols and responsible business practices are embedded into daily operations without compromising the guest experience.
The Environmental Health and Safety Officer will work closely with department heads to implement effective risk management strategies, monitor incident reports, and ensure adherence to local laws, industry standards, and corporate policies.
This role is central to fostering a culture of care - for our guests, our people, the environment, and the surrounding community. You will serve as the primary facilitator and organizer of the Responsible Business Committee, ensuring effective coordination of sustainability, safety, community, and compliance initiatives.
Your day to day
Guest Experience
- Ensure safety standards and procedures are visibly and effectively integrated into the guest experience, contributing to guest peace of mind.
- Conduct regular safety inspections of guest-facing areas and follow up on identified risks or improvements.
- Support incident investigations involving guests and recommend measures to prevent recurrence.
- Provide input for guest communications and signage related to health, safety, and environmental awareness. Help monitor trends and provide insights to improve guest-facing safety standards.
- Coordinate with department leaders to ensure emergency preparedness plans are in place and consistently communicated.
People
- Collaborate with department heads to integrate safety practices into daily operations.
- Assist in delivering safety and compliance training programs across departments, ensuring consistent standards.
- Provide tools and guidance for leaders to manage incident response and reporting.
- Support post-incident reviews to help teams identify areas for improvement and reinforce accountability.
- Act as an advisor and resource for team members, empowering a safety-first culture across all departments.
- Promote team member involvement in responsible business efforts, including community service and sustainability activities.
- Work with hotel leadership to identify and mitigate potential risks that could result in financial loss.
- Assist in coordinating insurance documentation, claims processes, and internal reporting requirements.
- Help implement cost-effective risk control measures that align with operational goals.
- Monitor and report on compliance costs, risk mitigation, and safety-related expenditures.
- Maintain records and reporting systems that allow for informed, data-driven decision making.
Responsible Business
- Serve as the main facilitator and organizer of the Responsible Business Committee, coordinating meetings, setting agendas, capturing actions, and driving follow-up on sustainability, community engagement, safety, and compliance initiatives.
- Support compliance with all applicable safety, health, and environmental regulations by helping develop and maintain relevant policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop and track sustainability and safety KPIs, including energy use, waste reduction, water management, and legal compliance.
- Assist in maintaining documentation of inspections, audits, and risk assessments.
- Partner with department leaders to embed responsible risk practices into business operations.
- Act as a liaison between the hotel and external stakeholders (e.g., legal, insurance, regulators) to ensure consistency and transparency in risk communications.
What we need from you
- QUALIFICATION: Tertiary qualification in WH&S, Risk Management, Safety Management, Environment Science or a related field preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in a safety, compliance, or sustainability role within hospitality, tourism, or a similarly guest-focused industry.
- Strong knowledge of safety regulations, emergency response protocols, and insurance policies.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage crises effectively.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and incident management software.
- On-site presence required; flexibility needed to respond to safety issues or audits outside normal hours.

This is a multi-site leadership role, overseeing locations across VIC, TAS and SA, and supporting Valmont’s global mission to conserve resources and improve lives.
Based at our Valmont Coatings site in Campbellfield VIC , this role leads the development, implementation, and ongoing improvement of our Environment, Health & Safety programs in alignment with Valmont’s global standards. Partnering with senior leaders, operational teams, and frontline staff, you’ll play a pivotal role in driving a proactive safety culture and ensuring compliance across all facets of EHS.
Your key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
- Lead and promote a culture of safety leadership and continuous improvement.
- Coordinate and deliver EHS training and awareness programs to build capability and ensure compliance across all sites.
- Support and implement Valmont’s EHS global standards, policies, procedures, and systems.
- Facilitate site-level investigations (incidents, near-misses, hazards), including root cause analysis and development of corrective/preventive actions.
- Conduct and support site risk assessments and lead initiatives to address critical risks and non-compliance.
- Collaborate with site managers and senior leaders to embed EHS compliance into everyday operations and decision-making.
- Manage and maintain the Safety Management System (Intelex), ensuring accurate reporting and performance tracking.
- Support external and internal audits, regulatory inspections, and compliance assessments.
- Monitor legislative changes and support sites in meeting their environmental and safety obligations.
- A Degree or Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years’ EHS experience in a high-risk or manufacturing environment.
- Extensive knowledge of EHS legislation and compliance frameworks.
- Skilled in writing policies and procedures and using systems to monitor performance.
- Strong communicator with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
- Highly organised, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.

How You’ll Make An Impact
- As the GT GS EQS Lead, you will be responsible for the implementation and continuous improvement of the EQS Management System which aligns with SE policies, local laws and customer requirements.
- Regulatory Compliance & Management Systems: Ensure alignment with country-specific and international EQS regulations, handle the EQS component of the Regional Integrated Management System, and stay updated on legislative and standards changes to ensure full compliance across SE GT GS Australia.
- Leadership & Expertise: Serve as the EQS subject matter authority, providing mentorship and support to EHS and Quality teams, promoting awareness, and educating all personnel on EQS requirements in alignment with SE’s established management systems.
- Implementation & Collaborator Engagement: Actively participate in meetings and collaborate with regional focal points to implement EQS requirements, while ensuring timely engagement and communication with all internal and external collaborators throughout the project lifecycle.
- Incident, Risk & Audit Management: Guide teams through the full incident management lifecycle, support audits and inspections, facilitates comprehensive risk assessments, and ensure the implementation and monitoring of corrective and preventive actions for continuous improvement.
- Competence Development & Training: Lead all aspects of training and competence development for office, project, and contractor personnel based on the training matrix, ensuring accurate documentation and accessibility of training records.
- Reporting & Continuous Improvement: Drive accurate and timely internal and external EQS reporting, handle important metric and annual reporting processes, and further continuous improvement through innovation, digitalization, and simplification of EQS practices
- Certifications & Qualifications: Holds a Safety Professional Certificate, Quality-related certification/training, and relevant in-country EQS qualifications; auditing credentials (ISO 9001, 14001, 45001) are highly valued.
- Experience & Domain Knowledge: Brings a minimum of 8 years of practical EHS experience with a validated grasp—or willingness to learn—about Quality; prior exposure to the energy sector or site EHS requirements is a strong advantage.
- Incident & Problem-Solving Expertise: Demonstrates a strong understanding of the incident management lifecycle, including classification, containment, root cause analysis, and corrective actions, with proven track record to resolve EQS issues optimally.
- Regulatory Awareness & Compliance: Possesses thorough knowledge of applicable statutory, legislative, and international standards, ensuring all operations align with current compliance requirements.
- Communication & Teamwork Skills: Fluent in written and spoken English, with strong communication and presentation abilities to successfully convey EQS requirements across complementary teams and partners.
- Cross-Functional Support & Versatility: Capable of guiding and collaborating with multiple functions on EQS matters, with supplied from any experience in Quality Management and Security, supporting a broad EQS scope.

Your responsibilities will include:
As an ESH Advisor you will:
Interpret, recommend, and comply with environmental, health and safety regulations and/or company policies, including ISO 45001:2018 and 14001:2015
Conduct Critical Control Checks, Site Inspections, Risk Assessments and carry out Ergonomic Assessments
Maintain company chemical register
Review and approve contractor safety documentation and licensing
Deliver inductions and WHS training for staff and contractors
About you:
To be successful in this role you will demonstrate the following:
Minimum Certificate IV in WHS (or willing to obtain).
1-3+ years’ experience in a Health and Safety role desirable.
Experience within the Aviation industry (preferably defence industry).
Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, solutions-driven mindset.
Experience in a similar position with a focus on partnering with management to implement solid, practical, and simplistic ESH management approaches and systems.
Experience working within a medium to large organisation implementing ESH Management System changes across multiple sites.
Experience conducting ESH investigations of incidents and development of reports to senior management for corrective actions and improvements.
Computer literacy with an ability to produce, analyse, and interpret reports.
Intermediate skills and experience in the use of MS Office and other relevant software packages and applications.
Special Requirements:
Applicants are required to be able to obtain and maintain Australian Defence Force security clearance.

- Advise all management levels and safety committees on Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) matters.
- Provide expertise in compliance areas like environmental reporting, ergonomics, electrical safety, and hazardous materials.
- Oversee incident and near-miss investigations, conduct follow-ups, and manage workplace injury administration and return-to-work programs.
- Coordinate environmental and safety programs (e.g., air quality, stormwater, spill prevention), conduct audits, inspections, and training to ensure compliance.
- Review new chemicals, equipment, and processes; participate in capital project reviews and ensure EHS integration in new initiatives.
- Track safety metrics, interpret regulations, develop training programs, and participate in industry groups to benchmark and improve practices.
- Bachelor’s degree in an EHS related discipline (preferred) or demonstrated experience within the EHS field

- 3+ years in an EHS role that includes developing and implementing safety training policies and procedures on topics including machine guarding, lock-out/tag-out, confined space entry, hazard communication, fall protection, personal protective equipment (PPE), accident investigation, ergonomics, and electrical safety procedures.
- Ideally 3+ years of experience working with regulatory requirements within a Service, Office , Distribution and Warehouse environment, including the aptitude to read, interpret, and implement local and international standards.

- Develop safety solutions to resolve EHS hazards/ concerns within cost and schedule constraints following a safety order of precedence to include elimination, substitution, engineering controls, work practice controls, training, and personal protective equipment (PPE) to ensure that safety of personnel, property, and the environment are within acceptable risk boundaries
- Monitor employee exposure to physical and chemical hazards
- Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards and ensure compliance with all applicable regulations
- Develop, implement, and maintain safety contingency plans (fires, spills, etc.)
- Develop and maintain compliance with all applicable regulations established by the EPA, CERCLA, RCRA, DOT, ATF, TCEQ, TRRC and other applicable regulatory agencies
- Perform environmental compliance and due diligence audits to ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree
- 3+ years of experience in the design, development and operational oversight of environmental, health and safety disciplines
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering with an emphasis in occupational health and safety and/or environmental engineering
- Demonstrated ability to research and apply the best industrial and working practices to provide effective services
- Knowledge of process safety management methods, pressure systems, and chemical delivery systems
- Strong knowledge and experience in interpreting, applying and documenting federal, state and local safety and environmental regulations
- Experience with emergency response communication and incident management in incidents involving hazardous and non-hazardous material releases to air, soil, and water

Main Responsibilities include (but not limited to):
- Lead initiatives to improve HSE performance (you are an Initiator)
- Support the development, delivery, and management of HSEQ Management Plans to help maintain current ISO and Federal Safety certifications (experienced in regulations and standards)
- Engage with stakeholders at all levels and lead HSE meetings (a collaborative approach is key)
- Deliver internal training to teams and individuals on Mono’s HSE processes (passionate about people and safety)
- Undertake audits, inspections, identification of trends, and compiling lessons learnt (a solutions-based mindset will get you far)
- Ensure workers have correct and current WHS related training, qualifications and competencies (attention to detail)
