As we expand our operations across Western and South Australia, we are looking for an experienced Environmental Planning and Compliance Manager to lead the charge on environmental approvals, compliance, and strategy across a diverse and dynamic portfolio.

The Opportunity
In this role, you will manage the full lifecycle of environmental and planning approvals across brownfield and greenfield developments. From works approvals and clearing permits to policy interpretation and stakeholder engagement, your work will directly support our operational teams to meet environmental obligations and strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and manage documentation for works approvals, planning approvals and clearing permits
- Provide expert advice on environmental and planning compliance across WA and SA operations
- Develop and deliver environmental spatial mapping documents and shapefiles
- Interpret and communicate changes in regulatory frameworks to internal stakeholders
- Support project teams with environmental risk assessments, site planning and policy navigation
- Build and maintain strong relationships with regulators, traditional owners, community groups and industry bodies
- Lead and mentor junior team members and contribute to developing internal environmental capability
- Support research and community partnerships with environmental organisations and local universities
- A degree in Environmental Science, Planning, Engineering or a related field
- At least 5 years of experience in environmental planning, compliance or consultancy within the past decade
- Proven ability to navigate environmental regulations in WA, with capacity to support SA as needed
- Strong background in development approvals, clearing permits and environmental risk management
- Proficiency in QGIS and working with spatial data and shape files
- Understanding of environmental threats such as dieback, weeds and site contamination
- Clear communication skills and the ability to influence across technical and non-technical audiences
- A proactive, detail-oriented and adaptable approach to work
- Previous experience in the extractive, mining or construction materials industry is highly regarded

Job Summary
Langan is seeking an Environmental Permitting and Compliance Engineer, Scientist, or Project Manager to join its collaborative team in Chicago, IL or Cleveland, OH . This individual will serve a key function in performing air permitting and compliance, industrial wastewater and stormwater compliance, storage tank registration and compliance evaluations, waste management, multi-media environmental compliance audits, development of monitoring and spill prevention and contingency plans, and report writing. In this role, you will have the opportunity to guide and review the work of staff, prepare permits and plans, and interact with clients and senior management.
Job Responsibilities- Prepare permits and compliance programs for multiple environmental media, including air, wastewater, stormwater, waste, spill prevention and storage tanks, EPCRA (Tier II, TRI);
- Perform multi-media environmental compliance audits, gap assessments, inspections, and program reviews;
- Develop and support implementation and management of various monitoring and spill prevention and contingency plans/programs (SPCC, FRP, SWPPP, Hazardous Waste Contingency Plans, etc.);
- Provide direct oversight and management of junior staff for specific project assignments;
- Lead and/or assist in the preparation of proposals including development of scope and costs;
- Manage project budgets and assist in invoicing as project or task manager;
- Interact with and build relationships with clients, contractors/subcontractors, and internal practice leaders;
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to customer service and responsiveness to client needs;
- Manage and deliver on multiple projects and tasks within specific budgets, schedules, and deadlines;
- Prepare technical documents including reports, plans/programs, permit applications, and other written deliverables;
- Train and mentor junior staff;
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team to support projects located throughout the US.
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental or Chemical Engineering or Science. Master’s degree preferred;
- 5+ years of experience working with regulations and environmental permitting;
- Professional certification preferred;
- 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification;
- Ability to effectively manage multiple clients and projects;
- Willingness and ability to identify new client opportunities is strongly desired;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;

The Project
The M80 Ring Road Alliance (comprising ACCIONA, MACA, and AECOM) has been selected to design and construct the M80 Ring Road Completion.
The project will deliver a major upgrade of the M80 Ring Road between the M80-Plenty Road interchange and the North East Link tunnel entrance at Watsonia, providing a seamless connection to North East Link. Works includes the construction of 14 kilometres of new lanes, bulk earthworks, retaining walls, bridge structures, rail interface works, intelligent transport systems, urban design and landscaping. This diverse and challenging project will be complete in 2028.
Key Responsibilities
- Environmental Compliance & Approvals : Ensure compliance with state and Commonwealth environmental approvals, regulations, and Environmental Performance Requirements (EPRs), including management of environmental systems and documentation such as EMPs and control plans.
- Environmental Management Systems : Develop, implement, and maintain the Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP) and associated procedures, ensuring continual improvement and system effectiveness.
- Monitoring & Reporting : Lead environmental monitoring strategies, compile monthly reports, provide sustainability data, and maintain accurate environmental records to support project compliance.
- Auditing & Inspections : Conduct internal audits and participate in external audits, as well as perform regular inspections to assess environmental and sustainability performance.
- Risk Management & Incident Response : Identify environmental risks, implement mitigation strategies, and assist with incident reporting and follow-up to ensure accountability and improvement.
- Stakeholder Engagement : Liaise with internal teams, clients, regulatory authorities, and community groups to support environmental objectives and approvals.
- Project Support & Integration : Support project delivery teams in integrating environmental requirements into planning, construction, and access approvals, contributing to parent company and M80RRA reporting obligations.
