Job Descriptions

You are an engineer who has worked on the design and manufacture of conveying and material handling systems for several years and who is willing to assist and lead less experienced peers. Along with the engineering team, you make a strong contribution to KE’s pursuit of innovation, industry leadership and meeting customer expectations every time. Your job is to use your proven mechanical engineering capability to understand customer challenges and then apply your skills to the design, development, and delivery of material handling systems that address these challenges. You are as comfortable taking directions as you are being hands-on leading a project, always leveraging your material handling knowledge and skills in diplomacy and authenticity. You enjoy collaborating with people across all levels of customer, supplier and KE organisations and you have a passion for improving such things as products, designs, and fabrication techniques.

Core Responsibilities

b. Familiarisation of customer requirements and fulfilment of design scope.

c. Design, development, modelling and detailing.

d. Delegation to and supervision of less experienced engineers and designers.

e. Taking direction from management and input from workshop leaders.

Qualifications

a. A formal tertiary qualification in mechanical engineering for material handling or similar as well as a minimum of four years’ vocational experience.

b. A nascent ability to supervise a team and a desire to continuously improve your leadership skills.

c. A thorough knowledge of computer aided design systems and proficiency in the use of Autodesk Inventor.

d. Proven creative flair and problem-solving ability.

e. Time management and collaboration skills.

f. Ability to manage projects through to site installation and commissioning.

g. Industry credibility and a history of success in design and manufacture.

h. Organisation skills and a work rate that ensures you meet deadlines.

i. Demonstrated skills in dealing with questions, challenges and the pragmatic hands-on resolution of problems arising through the fabrication and commissioning stages.

j. Willingness to travel to customer sites and successfully participate in the installation and commissioning phases.

Based at the Port of Botany in Sydney, this role supports the client-side DP World team in managing and coordinating the design aspects of construction projects in Sydney and at other sites across Australia.

The position involves close collaboration with engineering consultants, contractors, and government authorities, and includes the preparation of engineering proposals under the guidance of the team leader.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and manage the design development process, ensuring compliance with project standards and timely issue resolution
  • Maintain technical documentation and support implementation of BIM methodologies; develop and review design drawings using AutoCAD
  • Plan and monitor design-related work packages, assist with tender preparation, and provide design progress reporting
  • Support feasibility studies by comparing design schemes and recommending cost-effective, sustainable solutions
  • Assist in evaluating design alternatives for constructability, cost efficiency, and long-term value
  • Contribute to risk identification and quality control during the design phase
  • Liaise with consultants, contractors, and authorities to support seamless design execution
  • Maintain accurate records, particularly for design change management and project close-out reviews
  • Ensure compliance with OHS&E standards and actively promote safe work practice

Qualifications, Skills and Experience required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in civil engineering consultancies, ideally with exposure to port, marine, or large-scale infrastructure projects
  • Solid understanding of Australian design standards and regulatory frameworks
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD is essential; experience with BIM software is highly desirable
  • Familiarity with structured project management methodologies (e.g. PMI, PMBOK 6th Ed.); CAPM or similar certification is a plus
  • Experience supporting feasibility studies, developing design specifications, and procuring consultants or contractors is preferred
  • Proficient in scheduling tools and software (MS Office, MS Project) with strong reporting capabilities
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a detail-oriented mindset

About the Role
As the Engineering Design Manager, you will lead RUD Australia’s engineering design function, managing a talented, multidisciplinary team responsible for delivering innovative and cost-effective solutions.
You will oversee end-to-end design project delivery, ensure compliance with Australian and International standards, drive process improvements and collaborate closely with the production and sales teams to ensure seamless integration and customer satisfaction.
This role is critical to maintaining RUD’s engineering excellence and championing a culture of collaboration, technical mastery and safety.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, mentor and develop a team of Engineers, Draftsmen and Manufacturing Specialists.
  • Oversee the design, development and delivery of high-quality engineering projects.
  • Ensure all engineering activities meet relevant Australian and International standards.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across design and manufacturing processes.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Production, Sales and Quality teams to align design outcomes with business goals.
  • Manage resources, workflows and project priorities to achieve delivery targets.

What You’ll Bring - Essential

Position Overview

The Engineering Design & Approvals Manager is responsible for the engineering survey, design & drafting of Council’s civil infrastructure. This includes generating roads and traffic engineering programs, assisting in long-term infrastructure planning related to civil infrastructure, and providing engineering referrals for developments.

Qualifications:

A degree in Civil Engineering acceptable to the Institution of Engineers Australia or tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering with relevant experience.

Current Australian Class C Drivers Licence or equivalent.

White Card/General Construction Induction Training Card.

Please include copies of all relevant licenses and qualifications with your application.

Skills & Knowledge:

Knowledge of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act (NSW) relating to development processes.

Excellent prioritisation, time management, interpersonal, and communication skills.

Proactive problem-solving, troubleshooting, and decision-making abilities.

Experience supervising and coordinating team members, casual staff, contractors, and resources.

Knowledge of budget preparation, expenditure monitoring, MS Office, and CAD software.

Hours of work: 35 hours per week.

Salary and conditions: Starting from $127,344.36 to $140,075.52 annually (Grade 22), plus superannuation and a fully maintained leaseback vehicle.

About the Role

As the Engineering Design Manager, you will lead RUD Australia’s engineering design function, managing a talented, multidisciplinary team responsible for delivering innovative and cost-effective solutions.

You will oversee end-to-end design project delivery, ensure compliance with Australian and International standards, drive process improvements and collaborate closely with the production and sales teams to ensure seamless integration and customer satisfaction.

This role is critical to maintaining RUD’s engineering excellence and championing a culture of collaboration, technical mastery and safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor and develop a team of Engineers, Draftsmen and Manufacturing Specialists.
  • Oversee the design, development and delivery of high-quality engineering projects.
  • Ensure all engineering activities meet relevant Australian and International standards.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across design and manufacturing processes.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Production, Sales and Quality teams to align design outcomes with business goals.
  • Manage resources, workflows and project priorities to achieve delivery targets.
  • Uphold and champion “The RUD Way” by fostering a culture of innovation, safety and customer focus.

What You’ll Bring - Essential

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Structural Engineering.
  • Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) and Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ).
  • 10-15 years proven engineering application experience, ideally in steel fabrication or heavy industrial sectors.
  • Advanced CAD skills - Solid Edge experience highly regarded.
  • Minimum 5 years demonstrated leadership and team management experience.
  • Strong background in engineering design, process optimisation and standards compliance.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to influence and inspire at all levels.
  • A passion for continuous improvement, problem-solving and engineering innovation.
