Consumer and Business Services (CBS) is a division of the Attorney-General’s Department (AGD) and is South Australia’s dedicated agency committed to protecting consumers, supporting and regulating businesses and recording significant life events.With a focus on customer service, CBS’s functional areas include Births, Deaths and Marriages, Liquor, Gambling and Lotteries, Tobacco and Vaping, Businesses, Consumers, Renting and Letting, and Associations, Charities and Cooperatives.

The Principal Manager, Regulatory Assessments is a critical role responsible for leading and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Registrations Team and Assessments Team in the provision of efficient and effective registration, legal assessment and determination of complaints lodged relating to breaches across some 40 pieces of legislation.A key leadership appointment within the Compliance and Enforcement Branch, this is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced legal professional to leverage your expertise in complex consumer and trade matters including statutory interpretation, legal analysis, legal research and advice.

Offering significant professional independence, you will work under the broad direction of the Director, Regulation and Advice and exercise sound judgement and discretion in the determination of complex, sensitive matters; ensure compliance with government and agency policies, standards and guidelines; supervise legally qualified team members; engage effectively with key stakeholders including consumers, traders/agents and the Crown Solicitor’s Office; and operate with agility and initiative in the changing environment.

Your ability to undertake rigorous technical assessments, provide high-level legal advice and prepare complex legal documentation will be supported by tertiary qualifications in law, in addition to a current unrestricted practicing certificate.It is also expected that you will have strong leadership capabilities including a demonstrable track record of leading the performance of a diverse team and contributing at a strategic level in developing strategies and programs aligned to organisational goals and priorities.

About the role

We are currently seeking self-driven lawyers (6+PQE) for opportunities with our clients who have experience in the transactional elements of consumer and/or business banking and finance.

Experience in some of the following is essential:

  • transactions related to consumer and/or business banking;
  • understanding of broader banking products / solutions (including loans, transaction banking, leasing, credit cards, merchant, deposits, and private wealth solutions);
  • regulation and compliance in the national consumer credit protection legislation and relevant related areas;
  • management and remediation of customer complaints;
  • understanding and ability to comply with internal bank policies and approvals;
  • 'Buy Now, Pay Later' products;
  • fintech and associated regulation of digital platforms.

Candidates preferably need to be based in Sydney or Melbourne with the ability to work at least four days per week on a contract basis, however, candidates based in other locations or with reduced availability will still be considered.

Successful applicants will:

  • Have the right to work and reside in Australia
  • Be qualified to practice in Australia and have an unrestricted (unsupervised) practicing certificate or the ability to obtain the same
  • Have a minimum of 6 years' post-qualification experience within a law firm akin to A&O Shearman and/or ranked top tier in your area of expertise
  • Have a willingness to engage with Peerpoint as a casual employee or via an Independent Legal Practice
  • Have strong technical knowledge and ideally recent Australian experience (although the latter is not strictly necessary)
  • Be a self-starter with a commitment to building a career as a consultant and a drive to achieve at a high level whilst working as a consultant
  • Be adept at leading or working within complex multi-functional, multi-national project environments, or open to working in the same
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interface at all levels, building strong relationships internally and externally
  • Be client service-focused, with exemplary client service ethic and commitment
  • Have strong commercial/business acumen
  • Be resilient, adaptable, autonomous and highly credible
  • Have advanced organisational skills and diplomacy

The Opportunity

We are seeking a proactive and experienced Business Development Manager to be based in Sydney.

In this role, you will be supporting the Disputes, CRT and Consumer Sector. Our business development team works alongside our partners and lawyers across our sectors, services and offices to support and develop our relationships with clients, delivering an exceptional service and exploring new avenues through which we can help them meet their business needs.

As part of the business development team, you will play a hands-on role in contributing to the firm's success and helping to achieve its objectives.

You'll also be responsible for:

  • Provide strategic and tactical BD advice to the Disputes Managing Partner and Regional Head of Practice and Head of Products in the development and execution of the groups’ business development strategy.

  • Partner with legal teams to develop action plans, prepare pitches and submissions, and deliver market insights and financial analysis.

  • Champion the Client Listening Programme and drive initiatives to enhance client experience and relationships, including acting as Client Relationship Manager for priority clients significant to the Disputes practice.

  • Provide support to the Consumer Sector, working with the Consumer Sector Lead Partner to drive activity in relation to clients in the consumer sector.

  • Collaborate with CRPs, client teams, key stakeholders, and Practice Groups to develop and maintain an understanding of the consumer offering. Identify and introduce products/services to existing and target consumer clients to drive profitable revenue for the sector.

  • Lead the preparation of capability statements for the consumer sector, contribute to firm-wide pitches, and maintain BD infrastructure. This includes reporting and creating materials to support the consumer sector strategy.

  • Ensure compliance with WHS responsibilities and actively contribute to a safe and effective working environment.

To be successful in this position you will have:

  • 3-5 years+ experience in a business development role with a particular focus on strategic selling, pursuits management, account management, preferably in a professional services environment.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to build trusting relationships with the partnership and business services management alike.

  • Demonstrated experience building strategic business relationships and identifying/pursuing new business.

  • Proven ability to plan and execute against medium term business development plans/goals.

  • Demonstrated ability in navigating complex matrix organisations.

  • An inherent drive to succeed, and proven ability to develop and execute solutions to short term barriers and setbacks.

  • Experience project managing major tenders and bids.

  • Appropriate undergraduate degree qualifications. Post graduate qualifications are highly regarded.

  • Professional and commercial approach to business, with ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Role Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Business Analyst to lead the implementation of Consumer Data Right CDR initiatives. This position is critical in ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and the delivery of key outcomes across both product and consumer data workstreams. The ideal candidate will bring at least 8 years of relevant experience and a strong background in CDR implementation within regulated environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define refine and document detailed business requirements across product and customer data domains
  • Facilitate stakeholder engagement through interviews and workshops to gather objectives and regulatory needs
  • Collaborate with technology data and compliance teams to manage requirements from initiation to delivery
  • Ensure business requirements are traceable and compliant with CDR obligations
  • Act as a liaison between business and technical teams to support a shared understanding of goals and solutions
  • Lead customer and product data mapping activities including API specifications
  • Analyse current processes to identify gaps and improvement opportunities in compliance and delivery
  • Maintain user stories acceptance criteria and traceability in alignment with agile delivery practices
  • Support impact assessments process updates and change management planning
  • Assist in preparing documentation process flows and training materials for internal stakeholders
  • Contribute to the identification of compliance risks and assist in solution evaluation

Required Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 8 years of experience as a Business Analyst with a strong focus on regulatory and technology-driven projects
  • Mandatory hands-on experience in implementing Consumer Data Right CDR solutions in regulated sectors
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and workshop facilitation skills
  • Proven ability to develop clear business requirements user stories and process documentation
  • Knowledge of API design data mapping and CDR regulatory frameworks
  • Excellent communication documentation and analytical skills
  • Experience working in agile environments with tools such as Jira and Confluence
