Job Description
AECOM is delivering some of Australia’s most critical water infrastructure projects. With major investment in dam infrastructure and long-term partnerships with Dam owners nationwide, we offer an unparalleled opportunity to work on complex and high-impact projects across the country.
As part of our industry leading Dams team, you’ll contribute to feasibility studies, design, construction, and asset management, collaborating with specialists nationally and internationally to develop sustainable water solutions and mentor the next generation of engineers.
With AECOM’s flexibility, base yourself in either our Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Newcastle, Sydney, Perth or Melbourne offices.
How you’ll make a difference:
- Mechanical engineering design for dam operations and equipment integration.
- Inspection, investigation and condition assessment of existing dams.
- Construction support services including inspection of works, evaluation of quality control and quality assurance data and construction reporting.
- Preparation of tenders and proposals & providing mentoring.

About the role
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, your responsibility will be:
- Delivering project requirements according to agreed schedules consistent with Verbrec and client’s quality standards,
- Maintaining mechanical engineering standards across all projects,
- Providing technical guidance to junior engineers and peers,

About you

- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the design of oil, gas and energy, terminals or refining,
- Proven Australian experience in oil and gas, mining, refining, terminal, tank farm or bulk fuel distribution,
- A deep understanding of relevant design codes such as ASME B31.3, AS 4041, API 650, ASME VIII or AS 2885,
- Experienced in pipe stress analysis (AutoPIPE or Caesar II),
- Site, fabrication or construction experience is viewed positively but not essential,
- CPEng / RPEQ or equivalent, or near completion,
- You are a great team player, with the ability to work within or guide teams,
- Ability to perform engineering tasks with minimal supervision,

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you:
- Provide technical leadership in the design of gates, regulating structures, outlet works, valves, fish screens and other mechanical aspects of water storage dam infrastructure for projects in Australia and globally
- Provide mentoring and work closely with the rest of the team to develop sustainable capability in our Australia based team and globally
- Lead and oversee delivery of quality technical solutions and successful project outcomes that satisfy our clients’ needs
- Active participation in client relationship management, business development and the development of proposals and technical reports.
- Qualifications in Mechanical Engineering, and experience in the mechanical engineering aspects of water storage dams
- Experience at all project phases including project identification, feasibility studies, conceptual design, reference design, and detailed design.
- A minimum of 15 years’ experience in a consulting environment, specifically in the design and specification of gates, hoists, outlet works, trash racks and screens, fishways, pipe work, valves and other mechanical equipment associated with dams. Hydropower experience will also be looked on favorably.
- Experience in risk assessments and dam safety inspections or condition assessments of hydromechanical plant
- Experience working in multi-disciplined teams, including geologists, structural engineers, hydraulic engineers, dams engineers, and electrical and civil engineers.
- Successful development and growth of strong client relationships
- Established project team management skills in a multidisciplinary consulting environment

We are seeking a Senior Civil or Mechanical Engineer with a track record in delivering water and/or wastewater projects in either networks or treatment plants, to utilise your experience to drive the strategic development and continued growth of our team’s capabilities, and the delivery of complex water and wastewater projects for our clients.

- Using your technical and client relationship skills for the delivery of proposals, investigations and technical design projects

- The ability to lead and/or work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team across the project lifecycle
- Strong client relationship skills, project management skills, and experience in preparing winning proposals
- Design or planning skills in water or wastewater networks or treatment, including producing technical reports, developing engineering drawings, specifications and tender documentation for water or wastewater treatment infrastructure
- Experience with using civil or hydraulic design software is preferable
- Project management or design management experience, together with a willingness and ability to mentor and provide direction to junior staff

We’re looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Buildings Services team in WA.

Working with an energetic and high-performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:
- Perform general mechanical engineering tasks (design calculations, data analysis, using software to undertake engineering design).
- Prepare and write technical reports.
- Undertake field testing or site-based investigations, compile data, and assist with analysis and evaluation.
- Coordinate site or field technical activities, field testing or investigations, including analytical setup and managing subcontractors.
- Consult with design stakeholders to further best-for-project outcomes. Explain technical information to stakeholders.
- Understand the client’s expectations and help manage the client interface.
- Act as Project Manager for routine projects, responsible for project documentation (scope of work, etc.) and managing client interactions.
- Supervise the daily activities of a project or design team, including allocating and checking work and providing feedback on performance.
- Prepare proposals and pricing information for routine projects as required.
- Support and coach less experienced members of the team.
What you will bring to the team:
- 7+ years of relevant experience, preferably in a consulting environment.
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering or related field, and eligible for / has Chartered Status with Engineers Australia.
- Eligible for Defence Security Clearance (eligible or have Australian citizenship) (must have ).
- Applies broad knowledge of a professional discipline or advanced knowledge of technical practices demonstrated in a relevant industry or consulting business.
- Strong knowledge and application of Engineering principles, and high aptitude for planning and design.
- A valid driver's license.
- Familiar with a construction site and the risks and have / be eligible for a white card.
- Sound knowledge of Autodesk, Revit, BIM, CarrierHAP, Camel, Microsoft Office Suite, Australian Standards, NCC, ASHRAE, and AIRAH.

We are seeking experienced Principal Mechanical Engineers to join our expanding team of professional Balanced Machines Engineers. The successful applicant will be part of a busy multi-discipline design and delivery team working on exciting mining machine projects for our clients.
You will enjoy a full project scope, including design, execution, and final completion at our clients' sites throughout WA. Perth-based with optional office location in CBD or Henderson.

The Role
- Review and interpret scope of works and technical specifications
- Act as a lead mechanical engineer or assist the lead mechanical engineer in project delivery and tenders
- Design, specify, and select components

- Prepare calculations, reports, datasheets, BOMs, scope of works, and methodologies for construction and commissioning

About You
To be successful, you will possess:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering
- Minimum of 7+ years experience in the mining industry
- Experience with balanced machines and materials handling
- Proficiency in relevant engineering tools, software, and CAD systems
- Experience liaising directly within multidisciplinary teams

To support our ongoing growth, NEPEAN Conveyors NSW are currently seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer to join our Site Services team. This position is a full-time permanent opportunity, based in our design and manufacturing facility in Unanderra, NSW or closest NEPEAN office.
Daily duties will typically include:
- Represent NEPEAN Conveyors while engaged by our customers on their sites for site engineering activities.
- Preliminary engineering design and layout works for conveyors systems.
- Complete detailed drawings, general arrangements, schematics and/or sketches when required.
- Deliver audit reports and complete calculations for conveyor systems and related structures against the appropriate Australian or ISO standards.
- Undertake audits of customers fixed and mobile plant as directed.
- Innovate, scrutinise and economically optimise designs to achieve best value solution.
- Execute and manage document administration tasks including issue of documents, drawings, reports and revision control when required.
- Monitor and control the schedule, budget, and quality of work that is assigned to you and/or your team.
- Undertake investigation for field related issues or improvement opportunities
- Work with and support our engaged third-party contractors
- Undertake commissioning activities when required

The ideal candidate for this position would have:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience within a similar role, ideally in bulk material handling background or heavy industrial/mining industry
- Tertiary qualifications in a related discipline, Project Management, Mechanical Engineering and Drafting.
- Full Driver License (Class C)
- Proficiency in CAD software, preferably AutoCAD and Inventor and Vault.
- Bachelor of Engineering Degree in a Mechanical discipline
